The Student Union
Although the legal voting age is 18, we believe that students of all ages have a unique position of power in society. Schools are institutions that shape us and the world around us, and students throughout history have shown that their voices in unity can create real change.
Student Issues
Civil Liberties
How well is the government protecting our freedom of association, freedom of assembly, freedom of religion, freedom of speech, the rights to due process, a fair trial, and privacy?
Womens' Issues
Should it be legal for a woman to terminate her pregnancy? Health, morality and womens' rights are important considerations in this debate.
Intelligent Design
Should the Christian concept of Intelligent Design be taught in school science classes? Is this an issue of separation of church and state or of rights for a religious group?
Education
Are we giving our children the education they need? Should we have a higher education budget? What should be taught in school? This debate brings up matters of morals, religion, science, and budget.
Advertising in Schools
Brand involvement in schools can be beneficial for the school's budget, but at what point does corporate involvement target students in not an educational context, but as potential customers?
Sex Education
Should schools teach comprehensive sex education or abstinence-only sex education? Should birth control and disease prevention be covered or does that encourage sexual activity? Is teen sexual activity a problem?
Military Recruiters in Schools
Should military recruiters be allowed in schools? Should parents have the right to protect a child from being targeted in school? Should the military have access to personal information of all students?
