Ameritocracy in the Press

Ameritocracy Launch Party!

We held our launch party just after the Personal Democracy Forum ended in NYC. We were graciously hosted by the Mercer Hotel in SOHO, where the hors d'ouerves were amazing, the wine fantastic, and the venue stunning. Couldn't have been happier with the location.

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Outreach Director Bobby Kennedy III, and Founder Porter Bayne all made brief speeches to the audience about the state of information in the world and how we think Ameritocracy will enable people to vastly improve it. We had a great time, had some folks from a few different media outlets drop by, and put a strong stake in the ground for Ameritocracy in 2008.

The New York Post gave us a quick mention after the launch party.

Ameritocracy is full of diverse issues and opinions, so if you can't get worked up over the election, maybe you have an opinion on propositions like, "The mobile phone may be the most potent tool ever invented for the elimination of poverty."

Errol Louis on Air America

NYC radio host Errol Louis interview Bobby on the second morning of the Personal Democracy Forum. About half of the 25-min interview was about Ameritocracy and how we're influencing the state of information in politics and the media. Great host, great questions, great job Bobby.

Seattle Post-Intelligencer

May 8, 2008 - Seattle P-I - online and in-print!
It is often said that a democracy only works if the citizens are well informed. Ameritocracy.com is hoping that it can do its part to keep the wheels of democracy moving. The Seattle startup is developing a new online service that allows readers to rate the credibility and relevance of political news stories and politicians' comments.

Blog version here.

On June 22nd, Karen Jagoda, the host of Digital Politics as well as the founder of the non-partisan E-Voter Institute, interviewed Porter about what Ameritocracy is, how it combines concise content with transparency and reputation scores to create an incentive for quality information, and how this might impact politics. Also on the show was renowned pollster Mark Mellman.

Porter Bayne is the creator of a new online community called Ameritocracy.com, a site that allows users to read what politicians actually say, comment on their speeches, and rate the comments of other people. Think of it as a type of fact-checking site for people who don't have lots of free time to read candidate speeches for themselves.

More on Ameritocracy -- the new online political truth telling Web site -- from ReadWriteWeb, which describes it as a new political site to help "people cut through the noise and rate and review political information for credibility and relevance." I covered the Seattle startup -- led by Porter Bayne -- last month.

The Waving Cat

A few days ago I wrote a brief post about Ameritocracy, a collaborative fact-checking platform with a focus on U.S. politics. The Ameritrocracy team got back to me and was so nice to provide my readers with a bunch of invites to the close beta so you can check it out yourself.

Museum of Modern Betas

Cool / "random"! Ameritocracy was the 5,555th beta test listed on the Museum of Modern Betas! "The MoMB just crossed the 5555 betas mark (the 5555th app listed is the super sharp Ameritocracy.)"

The Waving Cat (again)

If there's one thing the internet is pretty good at, then it must be crunching lots of info by having a lot of folks look at said info. Call it crowdsourcing or collaboration, if you need a great many eyes to look at stuff, and a lot of opinions, the web is the place to go. So here comes Ameritocracy, a community-based, collaborative fact-checking site.

Killer Startups

Debate is the name of the game on Ameritocracy.com. Users log on to post questionable statements made by politicians on this open forum, starting an open discussion on what exactly that individual meant to say. From here, users comment on and rate that individual's intention and credibility. The purpose of the site is to generate dialogue among users with different opinions, hence representing all sides of the spectrum, and leading other users to evaluate all sides of a quote when making their own assessment. Posted statements reflect thoughts on the war in Iraq, the 2008 U.S. presidential race, and various other hot topics in the political world. Ameritocracy is a fantastic site for engaging in a good old fashioned political debate. Users have the opportunity to learn the various perspectives that other people have on different political issues.
