L. Brent Bozell III(1.1) said:

“This is not a freedom of speech issue,” Bozell concluded. “This is Newsday giving this woman a license to assault these fine men in print, accusing them of complicity in murder. Newsday should immediately publish a full retraction, and an abject and absolute apology to those defamed by this woman’s wretched words.”1

Five years ago, after Michael Savage (on his short-lived TV show 'Savage Nation') wished that a caller would "get AIDS and die", Bozell was quick to praise MSNBC for firing Savage. Bozell said, "It's nice to find that there are still program directors in radio and television with the common sense and decency not to tolerate shock jocks when they wish death on ... another human being." When exactly did Bozell's opinion of Michael Savage as a 'fine' man begin?1

"Media Research Center President L. Brent Bozell today sent a letter to Newsday Publisher Tim Knight demanding an apology for the August 13 column by Jenna Kern-Rugile entitled 'Does shock jock hate speech lead to violence?'". 1 [Speaking of the shooting at a Universalist church] "Might the shooter have heard talk-show host Rush Limbaugh say that 'liberalism is the greatest threat this country faces' and 'the Islamofascists are actually campaigning for the election of Democrats'..."2

of course it's a free speech issue! Furthermore the article says the shooter was "obviously mentally unbalanced. But ... I can't help wondering: Did their anti-liberal rants help push Adkisson over the edge?" This does *not* say they were complicit. 1

Not a freedom of speech issue? I would have loved to see this man's face as he made this statement. I can see no instance in which this is NOT a freedom of speech issue.

How can you defend Bill O'Reilley's (and other right-wing pundits') right to spew hate speech and claim that this citizen, with seemingly a fraction of the social weight that the big guys hold, doesn't have the right to speak negatively about them? It's completely contradictory. Free speech has no exceptions.
